Rigid polyurethane foam is a low-density PU system often used in fire retardant parts and insulation panels. In certain formulations, we use rigid foam for shoe sole insert components and even helmet liners.

Rigid polyurethane foams have a relativity large amount of cross-linking as the foams expands. Suppliers of the chemicals control the degree of cross-linking by functionality (higher functionality produces more cross-links) and molecular weight of the components in the blend.
